I have a small consultancy company in Japan, assisting Japanese and foreign companies reg. business issues. I have a homepage in Japanese, and one in English where I mainly use own photos. I also use photos supplied from Microsoft, but there is one single photo / icon that was none of these. The other day I got a letter from a Japanese lawyer, claiming to represent GettyImage, stating that I have used one single image without permission.
Does anyone else have any experience from Japan, reg. how to tackle GettyImage extortion letters in Japan?
Hope to hear from someone...

I do not know anyone in Japan nor have I ever received any info from Japanese recipients. Sorry. I suspect though it runs similarly to the Getty issue everywhere else, but you should check with local counsel and have them take a look at our site for info on how Getty has operated worldwide. You just need to compare whether Japanese copyright law mirrors US UK or some other copyright law.
