Just curious: our company is based in Taiwan, although we have a company in the US with the same name. There is no financial or legal relationship between these two companies. It was the Taiwan entity's website that allegedly mistakenly used copyrighted material. Does that affect any potential claims against us?

Chances are good they pulled the company info from your domain name, and while you state they have no ties together Getty ( or whomever) will say they do have ties, and that the company or person that owns the domain name is responsible..you'll get the typical scenario, so it would be in your best interest to get educated, before making your next move.

If one is a subsidiary of the other, that is enough for them to make the claim against the US corporation. If they are wholly distinct and separate entities, that would be a defense to any lawsuit by Getty (which will never be brought, as you will learn if you read these forums in depth).
