Bike-riding doctor sues roller-blading 11-year-old!

When Lauren Ellis was 11-years-old, she was rollerblading in front of her house. From behind her, she heard a noise, and someone called “watch out.” She looked over her shoulder, and, seconds later, she was hit by a bicyclist.

“When I went out there and I saw that this man had run over my daughter, I was angry,” said Lauren’s mother, Janet. “Immediately, it went into my head, it was an accident.”

"“In many instances, the name of the game from the plaintiff’s perspective is to settle,” Jon said of the tendency for individuals and small businesses to accept settlement offers — even when they have done nothing wrong —"

Things like this are completely asinine, this is where I am a firm supporter and believer in changing our laws so that if you bring a lawsuit like this and as it said in the video it took the jury 15 min. to rule in the defendant's favor, the judge should be able to use discretion and label it a frivolous lawsuit and make the plaintiff pay for the four years of legal bills and compensate them for the time and stress placed on the family.
Every situation is unique, any advice or opinions I offer are given for your consideration only. You must decide what is best for you and your particular situation. I am not a lawyer and do not offer legal advice.

Any lawyer who would take a case like this needs to be publicly shamed - it's ridiculous. Last week in Nassau County where I lived, a woman filed a suit against the County for $10M because she claims that they failed to properly supervise one of their police officers allowing HER to have an affair with him! That's right - he used to go to her house during his shift and they would get it on. It came out in the papers and now she says she is traumatized because of it and they should have supervised him better so that he would not be able to do that with her. THIS!!!  This is exactly what I am talking about. I agree with Oscar about a lawyer that would bring this to court should be shamed and I still stand by making the paintiff pay if it goes against him and ruled frivolous.

BTW, thank you for sharing the article Oscar.

Good one, Robert, as the spit on my monitor attests from the loud guffaw that erupted as soon as I read this. Ha!

It sounds like Oscar assigned a job to the ELI Community! (Shaming the lawyer that is... LOL!) Isn't that what we do best? :)

I'm a non-lawyer but not legally ignorant either. Under the 1st Amendment, I have the right to post facts & opinions using rhetorical hyperbole, colloquialisms, metaphors, parody, snark, or epithets. Under Section 230 of CDA, I'm only responsible for posts I write, not what others write.
