I wouldn't hold my breath!  Congress can't fix itself, so how can it possibly fix anything esle.  My personal opinion is the need for term limits, so they will not be beholden to the likes of Getty and other copyright lobbyists.  This goes for all other lobbyists as well.

I would think that with the bad reputation these guys get as copyright trolls would result in high employee turnover.  Therefore I am surprised there are not more comments about them from past employees on the site referenced.  I am not an employee, but I sure could say a few things about them, but then again it wouldn't be very nice.

I am currently about halfway there in my fight with Masterfile.  They are just more a nusiance now then a threat, since my whole mindset toward them has changed since finding this site and educating myself.  I decided to fight it on my own, so we will see what happens!

I just love it when the shoe is on the other foot.  Of course, I doubt they will learn their lesson.....sigh!

This is an interesting article for those that download files from sites like BitTorrent.

Thanks S.G.  I always drop in from time to time and catch up with what is going on in the copyright trolling industry.  This forum will always hold a special place in my heart.  It was this forum that educated and helped me formulate a plan to fight back against my own letter from Masterfile.  I am not out of the woods yet, but I don't worry about it anymore.  I am a fighter and will fight to the bitter end.

Take care all, and keep up the great work!

It looks as though Masterfail, uh I mean Masterfile has appealed their lawsuit against Chaga.  A new filing took place September 06, 2012.

Thought I would share the news with you guys about Godaddy!  It appears they have been hacked!  No sites hosted by them are up, and email accounts are dead in the water.

Getty Images Letter Forum / Re: Masterfile $12K per Image Extortion Letter
« on: September 01, 2012, 12:17:07 PM »
These people really aren't playing with a full deck.  They ask for such unreasonable amounts that they force their victims to research, find this site, and thus join the fight agaisnt this type of business model.  I personally believe that if they would ask for a reasonable amount, most people would pay.  It is better to get several hundred smaller payments, then ask for these huge sums that will never get paid.

The amounts listed on the above posted letter are actually "laughable," especially since Masterfile did not come out smelling like a rose agains Chaga. Frankly, I believe Masterfile had some great amunition against Chaga, since this was there second time around using photos from them without permission.  But they sued for such outrageous amounts, that they lost all credibility.

Masterfile is like a wasp that can sting you, whereas Getty is like one of those harmless flies that looks like a wasp from a distance.

Wonderful analogy!

Yea Ian!  This was a most pleasant read today.  Please keep us posted and I hope you guys prevail.  No matter in what country these extortionists tactics are used, it should be nipped in the bud.  I don't begrudge anyone making a living, but these people remind me of parasites, they feed off of others fear.  Time to get out the "troll powder!"

In two words..."Easy Money."  That is if you don't mind the negative lime light........ This whole copyright issue is really getting out of hand. With the onset of the internet, the laws need to be changed.  IMO, there should be a cease and desist letter first. Then a small fine per image (if registered separately), and if that doesn't work, then sue for costs and damages.  But $35,000 for two images, puhleeeese!

Getty Images Letter Forum / Is the copyright law constitutional?
« on: May 01, 2012, 12:59:39 PM »
I wonder how the SCOTUS would rule on the part of the law that says only the "end user" is accountable?  Does this not open up several questions?  For instance, your ability to enter into contract with a business without worrying they are performing illegal acts which you will be held liable for.  If this continues to hold up in court, then what about other services or employees you hire that do illegal acts without your knowledge?  Are we to be held liable for their acts as well?  The very basis of society is based on free trade and free enterprise, which this law limits severely. The potential fallout and references to other situations are waiting to explode down the road if this stands.  I really think that this "end user" part of the copyright law is questionable and should be brought before the courts in order to determine just who is liable and who isn't, when you as a customer, are paying for work contracted through a "supposedly" legitimate business.

Just thinking out loud.....

LOL!  Make sure you register that one so no one can plagiarize it.  If so then you can sue, sue, sue, sue.

Legal Controversies Forum / Re: Prescription Drug Scam
« on: April 12, 2012, 10:12:31 PM »
Another good reason not to take the toxic pharmaceutical prescription drugs!  Every prescription drug made was at one time organic and natural until the pharmacy scientist altered the chemical makeup, then set up drug trials (paid by pharmaceutical company...what a conflict of interest), then patented it to sell for ungodly amounts through legal drug pushers (doctors).  Many years ago I ordered antibiotics a few times from an on line pharmacy in New Zealand, since I think it is a crime to have to pay for a doctor's visit when you already know what the problem is and what is needed.  Besides, most doctors want give you the old cheap stand by e-miacin, or penicillin, they want you buy the newly patented ones that cost an arm and a leg and don't work that well anyway.  I did this a few times, until customs caught on and they just merely kept them.  Never heard a word from them and the pharmacy company refunded my money and that was that.  New Zealand has it right, you can buy drugs right over the counter there if it is non-narcotic without a prescription, unless they changed the law since I was there.

Believe me, for every drug in a pharmacy there is a natural one that is safe and works much better.  Just listen to the side affects listed on the drug commercials running on TV and that should be enough to make anyone run in the opposite direction.

I must admit, I am a little surprised about the lady that shot herself in the chest!  Most women opt for overdosing, or some other form of suicide rather than a violent gunshot.  Also, the angle for the chest is a little more difficult to pull off due to the awkward position of holding, aiming, and pulling the trigger, compared with the angle for the temple, the choice of most self inflicted gunshot wounds.

I believe that would be true, if it were a debt.  But remember, this is a claim, not a debt.  It only becomes a debt if you are sued and held liable by the courts.  If I am wrong, someone here will correct me.
