Getty Images Letter Forum / Getty Images Prices
« on: July 25, 2013, 04:46:11 AM »
I received a letter from GI last month. I looked up the images on their site, gettyimages.nl, they ask 182 euro per month per image for smallest size in lowest resolution for use on a web in the Netherlands. I cannot imagine anyone paying this for a very common picture, similar of which there are many for sale for 10 euro or less, for  so I wanted to look what the price in america is. I tried to open gettyimages.com, but I can't open this site.
The law in the Netherlands is different on copyright. A company can only be compensated for actual damage, in this case 182 euro per month per image.
I wonder if GI-prices differ from country to country. In a country were they cannot claim damages, the prices must go up. Does anyone know?

Ouch!!
the reason I ask is that I had stored lots of stuff on the server, totally oblivious of the fact that people had acces to it.
When I put out a search for free images I downloaded everything I liked, and uploaded a copy to the server, not knowing all this so called free stuff apparently isnĀ“t so free.

IĀ“m Dutch, my english isnĀ“t very good, when I see FREE, I think this means gratis. I feel really really stupid!

I received my first GI-extorsionletter last month en the second one 4 weeks later.
I don't know anything about inf. tech., I'm educating myself af quickly as possible, so I'm probably asking stupid questions.
On the www I read very disturbing things, rumour goes around that PicScout is downloading a copy of your entire website, is that even possible, or legal?
Does this mean that they can use this data for future clients?
