This demand letter makes my blood boil. I guess we will be seeing more of VKT in the posts here again. The same photo of Hanauma Bay is in question that was on my site. That photo is everywhere! I am really looking forward to the outcome of the Aloha Plastic Surgery case.

It looks like HAN is laying low until after the Aloha Plastic Surgery case. I have not received an escalation letter. I am continuing to read the posts in the forum and really appreciate the continued wealth of information to be found here.

Aloha Moe... The screen saver of Hanauma Bay turned up on both computers after I had them worked on and windows 7 installed. They were put there by the guy I hired on Oahu to do the work. It was just a coincidence that it was the same photo as the one in question from my site!

The funny thing is that when I had my desktop computer upgraded with windows 7 it came back to me with the same photo as wallpaper and I didn't put it there! Also... same with my laptop! It was a strange coincidence. Of course they have long since been removed.

unrelated question... can someone please tell me how to take a screen shot?

This happens to be one of VKT's older images. Now I'm curious about something else, Activated. Did you ever install the Webshots screensaver or any other 3rd party screensaver?

Also, do you remember where the image was stored in your computer when it mysteriously appeared as wallpaper on your desktop? Was it the Windows directory or a directory within that, or did you find it somewhere else in your hard drive?

Couch_potato, great tip for the modern PC user. A lot of people have forgotten what that key is for. I remember when "Prt Scr" would dump the 8-color screen capture on a dot-matrix printer that sounded like a gatling gun and had color ribbons like a typewriter.

'Prt Scr' button on your keyboard will take a screen shot. You'll then need to open something like microsoft paint and then edit & paste to copy the picture. You can then save the image to your computer.

My situation is with HAN. They sent me the copyright # and a signed copy from the artist giving them rights. But.. It seems like everyone on the forum has the same copyright reg # as the photo in question on my site. Is there a way to find out if the photo is actually included in the mass copyright? I suppose I should ask them to prove to me that the photo is indeed included?

Ode to HAN & VKT

Hello! She said. With a soft polite voice.
I’m calling about your website – in which I have no choice.
But to inform you of a violation – that is causing us frustration.
I represent and artist of the finest kind.
A photographer named Vincent Tylor – His photos are sublime.
It seems you have no license of which we are aware
And it’s my responsibility to collect an amount that’s fair.
For copyright infringement is a serious offence.
Ignorance of the law is certainly no defense.
So, please give me your address that I may send a bill.
And we will do this amicably – as neighbors always will.

I had to go… get off the phone… as I was currently at work.
I hung up flustered and confused, about to go berserk!

An email shortly followed requesting a large amount.
For a retroactive license, with a very big discount!

I contacted the artist to try to explain
That as far as I knew, the photo was in the public domain.
I had immediately removed it – even without being asked.
And provided him origin information, to help him with his task.
I received a “friendly” response – thanking me for my “story.”
It was obviously rehearsed – and very regulatory.

“Another similar business” he says has already been sent to court.
His threat was made amicably – in order to extort.
Vince said “Hawaiian Art Network & Copyright Services International”
Have Authority to settle and they really are quite rational. (lol)
So it doesn’t matter if your business is small or it’s quite large.
If you are the end user – There’s going to be a charge.

I find the copies of this image on the network that are free…
Are 15 pages deep in a google search, so one can clearly see-
Honeypots, trolls & seeding are most likely my defense
I WILL NOT be EXTORTED of this misleading offense.

Thanks to ELI members and the forum, I’m gaining knowledge & strength.
And I plan to fight this out – no matter what the length.

So Glen, since you are only responding to people who are profiting from your/VKT works... Does that mean if my business has made NO profit, and I had immediately removed the image from my site that you will leave me alone?

These are business professionals using our images for their profit and yes, I as well as Mr. Tylor feel strongly that the use should be compensated wither the business owner cared enough to ensure that they could use the image or not.
Your assumption that we are all business professionals who should "care" enough... Is not accurate. I am a single parent, trying to start a new business, inexperienced in the Internet, so I "cared" enough to hired someone to do my site to avoid any such problems. I asked where the photos came from and believed when told they were in the public domain. That had been downloaded from an AT&T site of free photos. The one and only photo in question is 240/320 and only a portion of the original. The photograph is available for free 15 pages deep on a google search in much larger sizes. Thanks to ELI I am gaining knowledge and empowerment.

Aloha! The photo in question with me is grouped in the (VA0001696555). I was just trying to find out how to prove that the photo in question that was on my site is even in there. The one I had is Hanauma Bay. http://free-hd-wallpaper.com/countries/hanauma-bay-oahu-hawaii-51826.html

It is the first photo to come up when you google Hanauma bay + free wall paper.

So far I have only been asked for less than $1,000. 

This has me very stressed out... But I really appreciate all the comments and discovery here.  Thanks everyone.

Aloha... I am new in this forum. I am another of the latest people being targeted by VKT & HAR. I was very pleased to find this site. I have been reading for 3 days now.  At this point I have only had phone and email contact with a woman connected with HAN and Copyright Services International. I noticed in a blog that said CSI is no longer in service. I know one of the emails I received had a CSI address. I would be interested in being part of a collective of people who are dealing with this issue. I am anticipating that I will be receiving an extortion letter soon. I was given a month to pay the "discounted" rate! When I first got the call I was horrified and have spend days not sleeping well and consumed with fear. I hope that I will not receive a letter and that this just goes away... Time will tell.  I hope this doesn't post twice.
