Hello everyone
I made a website for my friend who owns a restaurant about 2 months ago, I used a small image of some beer glasses (they were just simple 4 glasses with beer and nothing else, no face, nothing) by mistake from a blog that and didnt considered any big copyright risk then . But about 2 weeks ago, My friend received a letter and he informed me. I sent a mail to Getty Images UK office that I unintentionally used the image and I am just a student and not a professional who was trying a free website builder , I belong to a poor family and will not be able to give a amount of 1260 Euros! Today I received a mail from them, telling me that they have given me 50% off on the amount and If I pay before 18th December, then I have to pay 530 Euros. Now , after reading all the advice on a number of posts,
Im not sure if I should write them back pleading to reduce the amount to 200 Euros or less
OR
Should I consult a lawyer and tell him to send a letter to Getty asking them various questions as how you calculated this total figure etc.
Please guide me guys, I study in Finland and belong to a poor family.

I suggest that you thoroughly read through this Getty forum to understand how Getty works and to better assess the risks to you of whatever response you choose.
You need to realize that you are in this and they are not going to just go away. You have choices in how you treat this. Some cost more money than others. Some cost more time than others. The more you know about Getty and their modus operandi, the better choices you can make for yourself.
