Big ELI Video Update (June 23, 2012): Matthew Chan & Robert Krausankas

Robert and I couldn't stand it that we had a backlog of updates and commentary we felt a video update was in order.

Although, it was a longer video update (nearly an hour), I rushed to touch on many topics. We will likely have to revisit the topics again sometime in the near future. I hate rushing.

However, for the first time ever, everyone gets to see Robert where a shirt and tie!

Also, I think Robert had a revelation.... He is feeling way more comfortable in front of a video camera.  You know what that means.  More Robert appearances in future ELI Updates!

Is there any chance that this and other ELI videos might live somewhere accessible to the bandwidth challenged - like an FTP site?

I watched almost half of one of the videos about a week ago and found that I'd used more than half of my daily download allowance. Our Satellite internet provider does allow unlimited downloads for a few hours when I really need to sleep, so it's possible to grab large files but I would need a way to schedule it.

you'd be using the same if you downloaded the files via FTP, the files size is the file size. I'm not clear on why you are "downloading" them anyway, just watch them via oovoo or youtube?? or is your provider hitting you for bandwidth as well?

Yes, the provider limits (greatly) our bandwidth. In the middle of the night we get some free bandwidth, so I can schedule unattended downloads. Watching during that time is difficult because my old body thinks it needs some sleep!

Perhaps, a small audio version could be posted; maybe mono 128 kbit for Puzzleguy?

It's probably not important enough to worry about right away. I just thought maybe they were already available somewhere. An audio version would be great for me but I'm not sure how many others would make use of it.

Good interview as always!!

Something that's quite important was touched on in the interview.
It was my understanding that in the past, info/documents sent to ELI were treated as confidential, unless the sender said that it was ok for them to be released.
If I heard correctly, this has changed.  I know that there was never any formal confidentiality agreement, but, this is a significant change in procedure.

While there is no onus on ELI or its owner to keep things confidential, it's my opinion that permission should be sought before posting anything that was sent "privately".
Additionally, info may have been sent to ELI in the past by its participants under the assumption of confidentiality under the old (albeit informal) terms.

I know that less interesting news may be released if confidentiality is stricter.
On the other hand, participants may be hesitant to submit information that's valuable to the cause, even if it can't be broadcast on the forum.
We haven't had many Linda Ellis victims come forward, for example.

Those are only my opinions.  But, I think that this merits discussion, or least clarification.

Good point SG, I'll see if i can clarify "my" position, I won't speak for Matthew.

If information is sent to me I will always obtain permission to openly share it, whether it be in our scribd library or on the forums. and any personal information will ALWAYS be redacted. If that same information is shared with me, and I don't have permission to share it I won't, BUT I may choose to report on it. Yes the documents themselves would not be posted, but I may make reference in a post that there is a new development, involving such and such, law firm / troll making phone calls for example.

I guess what I'm getting at here, is I don't want folks dangling carrots under my nose, you all know I can be like a dog with a bone at times..

I think SG’s points are valid and might be a concern to newcomers.  We certainly would not want to miss some new information because of the person being afraid we would “out” them by posting information provided. 

I do like your clarification Robert, maybe on the YouTube channel there can be a notice under the video stating this so we don’t scare off any new people who are doing research before creating an account and posting questions.  Also maybe this disclaimer would be a good thing to add to the pinned items at the top of the forums for newbies to read?

I will ask SG to pass this on to you since I seem to have had a “Kick me” sign stuck to my back and been shoved out the door onto the street.  Just kidding guys, I’m still chuckling over that.

I guess I'll have to make a note to clarify this in the next video update..I mean if someone were to message me that Copyright Services International were resorting to text messaging demands, but they didn't want to share them, I would certainly share the this new development, no harm no foul..as far as I'm concerned.
