ELI Website Traffic Statistics Trivia
« on: January 20, 2011, 02:34:50 AM »
Did You Know?

ELI has 6,000+ unique visitors per month. The highest recorded was in January 2011 (before the Winter Holidays) with 7,100+ unique visitors.

Tuesday is the most popular day for ELI visitors followed by Wednesday.

70% of ELI visitors do so from direct connections. (We have a large base of repeat visitors.) The other 30% find us through search engines, mostly through Google.

An estimated 600+ letter recipients worldwide have listened or watched our informational audios and videos since we launched in 2008.

1. Bolivia, Singapore, Russia (all tied for 1st to 3rd place)

4. United Kingdom
5. Luxembourg
6. Ukraine & Canada (tied for 5th & 6th place)

It is very safe to say it was a team effort.  And in no small way your involvement brought a huge amount of credibility and expertise on the subject.

Also, you are a pretty good cheerleader and motivational coach behind the scenes. LOL.  Just saying....

7100 unique views. I feel a little less alone, with all my Getty letters, and a little more hopeful for a cheaper outcome.

I know people feel like they are alone. And sometimes the forum is a bit quiet. But I promise you, there are many readers being educated here.

That is one reason why I started tracking the stats.  And yes, the major stock image companies do read our forums also!  :-)

Maybe the college rookies on the phone lines and sending the emails will learn a thing or two between legal theory and the kool-aid being fed to them vs. the reality of the situation and the "other" side.

This is latest update on the ELI Website Traffic Stats Trivia.

ELI set an all-time record number of unique visitors in August 2011 with 10,200+ unique visitors.

Prior months were:

July 2011 - 9,600+ unique visitors
June 2011 - 9,200+ unique visitors
May 2011 - 7,500+ unique visitors

The highest number in one day is nearly 800 unique visitors. However, most of the time, there are easily 600-700 unique visitors per day. Wednesdays are our peak days, followed by Tuesdays, then Thursdays.

Those stock photo companies keep pumping out their letters driving more traffic to us.

Great info, Matt.  This is an immensely popular site.
Also, thanks to Matt, Oscar and Buddhapi for the huge amount of work they put into these efforts.

If you haven't done so already, I'd encourage everyone who's been assisted by their efforts to express their thanks as well!

S.G.

This is the November 2011 update on the ELI Website Traffic Stats Trivia.

ELI set an all-time record number of unique visitors in October 2011 with 11,000+ unique visitors using 9.1 GB of bandwidth.

The highest number of visitors in one day has now hit 840+ unique visitors. Wednesdays is still the peak day, except this time around, Mondays & Thursdays were nearly tied at 2nd place.

51% of traffic came from bookmarks and direct address.  (Repeat visitors)
28% of traffic came from search engines. (mostly Google)
21% of traffic came from referral links from other websites. (a lot more referrals that I expected)

On the Facebook front, ELI has nearly crossed the 300 "likes" milestone. It will probably cross over by the end of November.

I know I shouldn't be surprised but I guess I am still amazed that this small website about a very obscure issue (relative to what the rest of the world cares about) continues to grow as it does.

It should be interesting to see how ELI does over the holiday months of November and December 2011. We will find out after the New Year in 2012.

Those are some pretty impressive numbers for a blog. I wonder if you have thought about monetizing this traffic at all. Since the subject matter is about stock images and photography, I bet ads for GI and MF would show up in an Adwords block. And any visitors to your site that were to click on those ads would transfer a little change from those companies to your pocket.
Although I may be a super-genius, I am not a lawyer. So take my scribblings for what they are worth and get a real lawyer for real legal advice. But if you want media and design advice, please visit Motion City at http://motioncity.com.

I'm grinning ear to ear just picturing ads for Gi and MF appearing, and us being able to click them.. I can hear the ching ching sound echoing in my head!

One thing that hit me last night that I have not factored in is the robo-spammer factor.  This forum gets hit with 100-150 fake registration attempts every freaking day by robo-spammers and it irks me to no end.  Most of it does not make it for anyone to see. However, some do slip through and Buddhapi has caught many of them when I don't.

However, my hope is that despite the many robo-spamming attempts, they are concentrated to a few IP addresses which will not materially affect the stats I have published.

Regarding monetizing the traffic? I will share my thoughts on that later.

Quick update, I suspected that overall traffic might be up this past week so I checked my website logs.

It turns out on November 14, we broke another record with 921 unique visitors in a single day!! I run this little website and I am once again surprised at these numbers. And since that day we are registering well over 800+ unique visitors per day.

I guess all this drama with the Hawaiian Art Network-related lawyer fiasco has drawn in a lot more people to check things out.

The robo-spammers is a good point.  I have a blog that I add to every now and then so I don't pay much attention to it.  One day I opened it and found that it went from 37 entries to about 1800 entries.  I had to lock it down and delete all the articles that appeared pitching one product or another.  Now, I don't let people self-register anymore
