Dear Oscar/Matthew,
First of all i would like to thank you for all the help you provide @ http://www.extortionletterinfo.com/ this website really helped me understand a bit more what is going on.
I am a freelance web developer , My client is a small insurance company i created there website and had to sub contracted web designer from India to do the design while i did all the programming and setting up the website on the server.
About month ago our client received the first Settlement Demand letter from Masterfile Corporation notifying them of copyright infringement. There are five images on the Company Website they claim are copyrighted by Masterfile. They are seeking for about $12,000.00
The website was designed and created by the web designer (from india) back in 2007. I contacted the web designer who created the website and they claim they all thier images were Royalty Free at the time , and that he had similar situations in the past, all we have to do is to change the images immediately, and this all thing should go away.
We changed all images the day the client received the letter. and i sent and email to the client saying what the web designer told me. ( we should be okay now we have changed the images).
Unfortunately, we were wrong because last week the client received a second mail from Masterfile, Asking for even more i have not received a copy of this document yet. ( But i am pretty sure it is not a good news )
Finally, i would like to let you know that i am a freelancer, i don't have this kind of money, this is the first time this happen, honestly i really don't know how to handle this. Nor where to start , also i don't think that the client should pay anything since either of us knew anything about these images.
I tried calling your office last week but unfortunately you were not there. i have left a message and i have to admit i was really frustrated and scared about this happening.
If you could please contact me to discuss about this matter i would highly appreciated.
Thanks again, for your time and consideration.
