Question regarding the letter process
« on: November 07, 2011, 04:24:09 PM »
I received the dreaded letter about 6 months ago demanding a settlement of around $1,000. Upon receiving it I removed the image they referred to and also e-mailed them that it was removed. They responded asking for payment to which I responded with an offer of a few hundred dollars. They then responded back with another offer closer to $800 to which I asked if we could meet somewhere in the middle. They e-mailed and said that there would be no further reduction offered.

At that point I didn't respond again and have since received a 2nd letter as well as a letter from their collection's agency. My question is, having received the 2nd letter and the letter from their collection's agency, should I respond to them again or should I not pay attention to their notices now since I did make a legitimate offer to settle with them?

Thanks!

Maybe we could hire "Drizzle" to take care of this mundane task, she might be needing a job real soon!

Good to see you here SG, I was getting lonely.

Honestly, I'm new to all this too. But have you tried looking at the videos? They are helpful and explain a lot about the letter program.

I say fight the good fight... but not everyone is in the position to do so.

I understand that there are a lot of similar posts on the topic, and I've read a large number of posts in this forum. My question has to do with responding to the collection's agency and/or writing Getty back. I understand the consensus is to first make an offer and to respond to their first correspondence, but I'm not sure the consensus on responding to additional letters and correspondence from Getty and/or the collection's agency.

I appreciate the advice and ongoing support of the community here. Thanks!

If you notify the collection agency in writitng, by LAW they have to cease communications with you and send it back to Getty. It's a claim not a debt.

Contacting  getty a second time is completely up to you, some of us have some have not, I personally quickly chose to not deal with them after 1 conversation on the phone, as it was going nowhere.
