The Dash Poem used to beat down Christians
« on: February 20, 2013, 03:41:14 PM »
I just got off the phone with another attorney. Linda Ellis is demanding $7500 from her client - a very small church in the Midwest. Yesterday I had the nearly identical conversation with another attorney - representing a school system in the Midwest. I've asked both to come out on this forum and both to contact Oscar. They both do not intend to settle for any amount. I hope this is the case.

I also heard from another church last night. I think we can assume that Linda Ellis likes the money more than her reputation as an inspirational author and the author of The Dash poem. I find it so interesting that she rips off this poem's concept (and maybe even the actual words) from Dr. J. Truett Gannon, the preacher that shared these words freely for decades. He lives nearby Linda and I suspect he is the man she refers to in this poem. She then uses this amazing spiritual guide's words to brutalize God's children. WHEN, I mean WHEN will these people unite their stories and then tell them?? What is the point of having God in a life if His words and Ways don't empower people who believe in Him? I don't get it. I just don't get it.

With that said, one of my good friends children passed away yesterday. This family is a wreck right now.  Since he follows me on FB my guess is he won't use that stupid poem anywhere, but now, every time I hear of a death I want to send a warning about that stupid poem. I don't since I can't seem to find an appropriate way to do so. Imagine grief combined with a $7500 extortion letter. Horrific in my world but the true legacy of Linda Ellis.

You would think that all the traffic and discussion this forum generates on the subject would make it come up when someone searches for The Dash. The issue is how to get it to come up when people are searching for appropriate things to read or say at funerals, etc. Even a media report on the Ellis campaign would only be temporarily effective. Having ELI come up when you are searching for that kind of item is a good way to spread the word about her trolling program. You have also made me think, April that with all the folks who are getting these letters, maybe Matt and i should develop a letter defense program for Dash recipients. It's a little trickier than the Getty issue but I think its a worthwhile pursuit because someone has to put a roadblock into this train.

(Disclaimer - That is a figure of speech, Ms. Ellis, I am not actually intending to throw a roadblock into any train you may be on. So please don't take it as an actual threat. Though I would very much love for you to try and file a nonsense application for a protective order in NYC like you did in Georgia. After the clerk's laughter died down, they would throw your dash out of the courthouse. Disclaimer - that is a play on your poem's title and the figure of speech "throw your ass out" I do not mean that if you come to court I will actually throw you out of the courthouse. Well, then again ...)

I loved it so much I felt a need to quote it , in its' entirety! I'm sure with a little effort we could get ELI to appear in search results for whatever we choose..we're good at that  ;D, would also be nice to be able to reach out to all funeral homes, directors and the like.
Most questions have already been addressed in the forums, get yourself educated before making decisions.

Any advice is strictly that, and anything I may state is based on my opinions, and observations.

Mrs. Mulligan had to come into the back bedroom to see what I was howling about... that's how much I enjoyed your disclaimer, Oscar. Terrific, just plain terrific, writing!

Thanks all. You know, humor (sometimes cringeworthy) has always been an important part of this site and what makes it such a great community to be a part of, but the reason I am getting into BuddhaPi and SG mode on this issue is because what Linda Ellis has done is NOT FUNNY AT ALL. Forcing a person to have to answer a motion for an order of protection is a serious concern. It has occupied a tremendous amount of Matt's time and has to have him worried despite the all the support he has because you just never know what a judge will do.  So she has completely crossed a line that cannot be crossed - the posts she complains the most about were written months and months ago. No reasonable person would ever think that there was threat of harm to her. She is taking a commercial dispute and turning it into a claim of domestic violence. Matt has never followed this person, contacted this person, done surveillance on this person, threatened this person with harm, not even has he phoned her or texted her or even emailed her to my knowledge. For her to take up the court's time, and make Matt address these charges is an outrageous abuse of the court system and I will do everything I can to help Matt make this judge see things our way. Once again, it is so great to see this community come together in support of Matt. I am so proud to be a part of it!

I'm sure Linda's main goal is Time Sucking. I often think of all the "more important" things I could be doing if I would have just ignored this wierdo. Then I remind myself that every single freedom I enjoy today had a champion behind it. I remind myself that seemingly meaningless crap has to be addressed and exposed. Whether we are fighting big banks trying to gouge us with $5 fees http://www.npr.org/2011/11/03/141980743/young-woman-wins-fight-against-big-bank or we are taking on life-threatening issues like the contaminated Love Canal http://arts.envirolink.org/arts_and_activism/LoisGibbs.html - or exposing copyright trolls, we can make a difference and change laws, attitudes and policies. We are making a difference. The pat on the back may never come but rest assured we ARE making a difference.

The time-suck has been incredibly difficult to deal with. It's like I have suspended most of my business life to learn a different aspect of law.  The one good thing I have on my side is I have been in a courtroom many times, not afraid to stand my ground, and assert my position to the judge.  I am very comfortable arguing my position not only because it's strong but because what she claims is entirely baseless.

For the record, I have NOT telephoned, texted, emailed, snail-mailed, messengered, Facebooked, tweeted, or used smoke signals to contact her. I have never wanted to engage her. If anything, she tried to engage me early on last year.

Absolutely no surveillance whatsoever (unless you call sitting in front of the computer doing Google searches and browsing government database websites surveillance).  Never came close to driving into her subdivision or her house (that I know of).  Just because I drive by or into Marietta means nothing.  I have a rental house in Marietta, dated women in Marietta, socialized in Marietta, shop and patronize businesses in Marietta, and lived in Marietta.  Linda doesn't own Marietta and my being in Marietta itself is nowhere close to stalking her.

Matt has never followed this person, contacted this person, done surveillance on this person, threatened this person with harm, not even has he phoned her or texted her or even emailed her to my knowledge.

Linda accusing you of stalking makes a mockery of the protection of that law. I have several clients who serve in the domestic violence arena. This is clearly an abuse of that protection. Little by little Linda Ellis chips away at any credibility she may have. But I'm with Matthew. I don't believe Judges are absent of prejudice. I do think the fact that Matthew is a Georgian is helpful. My guess is that Southern judges are burned out on that "sweet Georgia peach" crap.
