In the unlikely event you get sued, an incur some outrageous judgement, even in the hundreds of thousands, it can all be readily discharged via Chapter 7 in most states, so I've been reassured by several bankruptcy attorneys.  Nice to have that ace in the hole if things ever got out of hand. So even if they win big, they can still wind up losing...

Aside from the flurry of lawsuits filed in Florida early this year, has Getty followed through with any more to anyone's knowledge?? Pacer doesnt seem to reference any, at least that I can find...thanx

I've received 2 Getty and 2 followup McCormacks in about the last yearwhich I've completely ignored. Anyone have an approximate idea how long it might take if they decided to file suit, or delay tactics that can be used to keep kicking this can down the three year road?
I realize no one may know the answer, but any educated guesses would be welcome.

Gotta give credit where credit's due. The phone consult I got w/you a few days ago was far more useful and insightful than my PrePaid Legal Service and another paid consult I had with a local IP Attorney for a "discounted" $250.00. While cognizant there are absolutely no guarantees as to how my situation will play out, I feel you gave me an incredibly reality based perspective as to where I actually stand and what effective counter measures I can take in dealing with these parasitical organisms.  The fact you spent close to an hour discussing my situation, when I had technically paid for half that speaks volumes. I sense I am much better prepared no matter which route I go, be it ignore, use Oscar, negotiate or even get judged against.
Just sayin...

Getty Images Letter Forum / Protecting Assets in face of possible pro-Getty judgement

New here-got my first Getty letter about a year ago, followed by 2 recent  McCormack letters, giving me a deadline to pay, followed by a "courtesy extension" of that deadline for 2 weeks. They want 2 grand for 3 images which actually cost about 100.00 total. Haven't decided whether to ignore, use Oscar, or try to negotiate directly to get their demand down.
In the event they sue and win some outrageous judgement,  I would love to make it an expensive and meaningless "victory" for them for them. Any opinions about  protecting assets, such as houses, vehicles, salary/wage protections, 401ks, possible inheritances, moving from DBA/Sole Proprietorship to LLC,  etc..  would be appreciated. I live in Florida.
