Yes, I saw that. No way in heck I would ever do that. The person who wrote that has an overactive imagination. That would be a stupid thing to do to get into those reader comments since I am a big part of the story. Besides, it's not my style to be anonymous. 

I wrote my official response to the MDJ reporter and emailed a copy of my comments and corrections to management but I haven't heard from any of them. Neither has Oscar Michelen.  It appears they don't really care about a balanced story.

I noticed that they removed the gun threat post. I guess someone at the MDJ is paying attention.  We have the screen shot though.  I am really surprised at how active the reader comments are. 

Latest comment at PDN Pulse from one of the anti-ELI crowd:

"I am fairly confident that whoever posted that ignorant comment about Matthew Chan and the gun is none other than Matthew Chan himself or one of his “cult” followers..."

A Permanent Protective Order (PPO) was issued against ELI Founder, Matthew Chan of Columbus GA, on March 4, 2013. ELI is now forbidden to comment or share information about the Plaintiff.

Media coverage of ELI, Matthew Chan, and the recent PPO against him has created public dialog and public interest in these subjects. This forum provides "official" ELI Responses, Rebuttals, and Corrections to inaccuracies within the media coverage.

Legal Advisor Oscar Michelen Comments On Permanent Protective Order Against Matthew Chan, Founder of Anti-Troll Website, ExtortionLetterInfo.com

I am Matthew Chan's legal adviser on ExtortionLetterInfo.com (ELI) and a frequent contributor to the forums on the site. Since it seems this PPO is now becoming a matter of public discourse, I would like to tell you my position on the matter. I will be representing Matthew along with local Georgia counsel if Matthew decides to appeal the order. When I say "if", I want you to know that we may not appeal. If we choose not to appeal, we will do that not because we think an appeal would be unsuccessful (we are confident of our chances on appeal); or because we agree with the court's decision (we don't); or because we are happy with the outcome (we are not - in fact, we are outraged by the outcome). If we don't appeal, it will because it just isn't worth it.

Long before ELI ever heard of Linda Ellis or the “The Dash”, it was the #1 site on the Internet for information about digital image litigation and how big photo warehouses were abusing the copyright system to force decent folks into paying exorbitant settlement amounts for minor infringements. It expanded to cover numerous other instances of what is known as “copyright trolling”. It was covered in the press and received thousands of visitors each month.

Yes, when we learned of Ms. Ellis' version of copyright enforcement, it caught our attention and we opened a forum on it. But it never amounted to anything other than a very minor part of what we did and discussed on ELI. So if all Matthew has to do to not violate the order is not talk about her anymore (and since it is clear if the posts are read in context that all the "revenge and payback" Matthew talked about was with respect to how she operated her business model and nothing else), so be it.

If we do appeal, it will be because the order stifles free speech in general and future speech on ELI specifically. Matthew was not charged with being boorish or rude or hurtful.  He was not even charged with threatening Ms. Ellis. He was charged with stalking her. Even though he never contacted her or called her or emailed her. He was principally held responsible for the postings made by others. If Internet posts that are not sent to a person and are read voluntarily by that person can amount to stalking, then the Internet may be in big trouble. I could go on about how I feel everything Matthew did is permitted by the First Amendment and Georgia law but I think this letter is long enough already.

I would be glad to discuss this further with you at a mutually convenient time. Thanks for your interest in this issue and your willingness to hear all sides.

WTF! That is an unbelievable complaint letter #22.

I almost feel sorry for McCormack. That has got to be the heaviest letter against an copyright extortionist attorney I've seen in a long time.  It appears the onslaught and ongoing series of complaints is finally taking its toll.  The Attorney General's office is clearly getting too many complaints in a relatively short amount of time to ignore.

And while I am gratified that this letter campaign is working, it is Getty Images and its extortion team that is getting away with murder. (That is a figurative term, not literal, for the litigant-prone.)

How Timmy thought he could keep pounding away with all these extortion letters without providing any substance is beyond me. Most of the in-house Getty attorneys couldn't survive financially or support themselves outside the protective walls of their corporate mommy.

If I had to choose, I respect Timmy more than the in-house Getty flunkies he works for.  Timmy is stupidly taking all these arrows in the back for the Getty flunkies.  I absolutely hate the way Timmy makes money but he is out in the wilderness supporting his own office.

It's really tragic that Timmy can't seem to transition to something else and let Getty do their own dirty work. But if Timmy wants to put himself in that position, that is his choice.

This so-called "misguided and misdirected" letter campaign appears to be working in spades! Greg gets credit for spearheading this.

This is what happens when what should be a "loss recovery" model becomes into a greedy "revenue" model.

One of these days, someone is going to squeal on how Getty internally operates and reveal their quota and incentive system to maximize extortionate sales... oops, I mean collections.

I would also like to commend the Getty and McCormack letter victims for having the courage to stand up, speak out, and put their complaints in writing.  (Greg's cutting edge campaign letter program absolutely works!)  I applaud these victims unlike another faction of victims of a certain copyright extortionist (that shall go unnamed) who simply want a shoulder to cry on, let someone else take the bullets in the back, and stupidly pay in.

A Permanent Protective Order was issued by the court against me and we are looking to overturn the decision through an appeal. I am unable to get into specifics at this time until I find out more about the PPO. However, my ability to speak freely on my own website has been severely hampered.  A discussion forum we used to host has been entirely shut down as a direct result.  Can you imagine if this forum was entirely shut down and YOU couldn't post your questions and we couldn't answer them?

As many in our ELI Family know, I lost the court case with LE.  A Permanent Protective Order (PPO) was issued against me. The specifics of that PPO is unknown at this time.  The ruling has made a lot of people unhappy given that there was a lot of good information in that forum and it was a valued communication platform.  Unfortunately, I was forced to shut it down and block the information within. My constitutional right to Freedom of Speech is now being blocked and information that was freely shared is now being quashed.

Right now, I am working with a team to raise money for an ELI Legal Fund to reverse this ruling through an appeal in the Georgia Court of Appeals so that I may restore my Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Information.

As unbelievable as it may sound, Freedom of Speech can be taken away in 2013. I will explain how this can happen sometime soon.

More information and updates will be released sometime in the future.  For now, the LE/LL/DP will remain closed. No discussions of LE will be permitted on the ELI Forums at this time.
