I just realized that today is the end of my statute of limitations.  Although I felt fairly confident Getty was not going to come after me (and kind of sad they didn't try) it is still good to know that this part of my Getty experience is over.

I am not going anywhere and will continue on here assisting new letter recipients explore their options and encouraging those who feel that they have been treated/handled unfairly to file Attorney General complaints, speak up and make their voices heard.

On the bright side of this, if I had not received that letter and Getty refused to negotiate in good faith I would have never become involved with ELI or have made so many life-long and valued friends.  So thank you Matthew, Robert, Oscar, April, Joe and the rest of the family, it is a privilege and pleasure to talk with you, work with you and most of all call you friend.

I have had an iStock contributor reach out to me and share something interesting.  Apparently right after the announcement that iStock parent company Getty Images burned through 1/3 of their cash reserves in the last quarter of 2014 iStock made several changes to what the contributors have to do to get paid.  The new forms/rules seem to be very confusing to many of iStock's contributors and they are now not receiving their payments.  There are also many complaints that there has not been a support phone number for a few years now and their support emails are not being answered in a timely manner or at all.

The contributor who contacted me directed me to the iStock contributor forum which is rife with complaints such as this...

….The whole thing has been an unreal hassle, from the tax interview not going through, to emails going to getty and taking weeks to be anwsered, often leaving me with both more hoops to jump through and more questions and more delays.  I finally said screw it, use the iStock paperwork and take out the tax, but didn't see that my account was on hold unitll  I filled out the new paperwork.  Funny how my paperwork was just fine for iStock and for every other stock photo agency and client I work with... but not for Getty.

Getty Images Letter Forum / Re: Heads up Destination360 possible issue
« on: March 27, 2015, 07:49:56 PM »
Welcome to the forum D360.  I think you will find if you read through the threads that we are firm believers in artists rights and feel they should be paid for their work.  We object to the strong arm, extortionistic tactics used by some like Getty, VKT and son and others.  When amounts asked for are more than you could hope to win in court and accompanied with threats of legal action then yes, that company can expect to become a topic of discussion here.  I don't believe I have ever seen a letter from your company so I have no opinion on it.

I invite you to look around the forums and ask questions about what we believe and actually do and at the same time I would appreciate if you would share more about your company and it's policies.

Again, welcome to the forum.

Love it!

I actually was thinking along the lines of including JonathanKlein.com and variants when I purchased the domains for www.GettyImagesMustChange.com

I decided against it as there were to many other high profile people with the same name including the CEO of CBS.  If it weren't for that I most likely would have gone that route as well.

Another excellent choice is www.pond5.com.  Their prices are very good and have no affiliations with Getty.  This is where I get my images from and have been very happy with the quality, service and price.

Jerry,

It was worse than that, they burned through that cash in the last quarter!

I am on record years ago for saying "suing your potential customers is not a sustainable business model." Burning through a third of Getty's cash in a year seems to enforce that prediction. I try not to partake in Schadenfreude http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schadenfreude. But in Getty's case, I am overjoyed to make an exception.

Today Getty Images chairman and CEO Jonathan Klein announced he was stepping down as CEO as soon as a successor can be found.

Matthew, I couldn't agree with you more.  Oscar is a truly great person doing all he can to right wrongs where he can.  I am proud and honored to know him and call him my friend and am so happy that justice was finally served for Mr. McCallum, I only wish it had not taken so long.

Oscar, THANK YOU for all you do!

Getty Images Letter Forum / Re: Trunk Archive Letter (Getty?)
« on: March 04, 2015, 09:38:48 PM »
IT is my strong belief that Getty's Copyright Compliance team is now Pic-Scout Compliance Team.  Getty's does appear to have slowed down dramatically and now they are using Pic-Scout and the established compliance team to make the offer to Pic-Scout subscribers that you give us your database to upload to Pic-Scout and we will do the work send the letters make the collections and take our cut, all you have to do is wait for the check.

As to the signature thing I think there are two reasons for them not signing the letters.  First, the exposure of Robert and his list of Copyright Trolls as well as my complaint letter campaign where it was suggested that the compliance personal should be included along with the corporation they work for in the complaint.  I started noticing the letters no longer being signed after this started.

Second, since in my opinion it is the copyright compliance team handling all the PS complaints it may look strange if the OP received his first letter from Trunk signed by known Getty pen-pal Douglas Bieker then his second letter from Otto came signed by Douglas Bieker as well.

To the OP, I would take Roberts advice and remove all pictures you do not own or have purchased rights to.  If they are in a "Private" directory I would make sure it is password protected or you may find it is not private to Pic-Scout,  We have received letter from people who have had placer images on test pages in private directories and were shocked to get "The Letter".  Read up and educate yourself after removing all images and keep us posted.
