You are going down the wrong path here. It is way too involved to get into here based on your broad comments.

You might want to consider an ELI Support Call if you want to save time and get down to it.

So I received a response from Getty and in their response they seem to have some boiler plate repsonses... anyone have any comments on how they handled these?

I am familiar with these types of weird-looking addresses. She is/was using a UPS Store as a mail receiving service.

http://www.theupsstorelocal.com/2532/

I happen to use a similar service because I don't have a public office for people to casually drop-in.

I am a little confused... Miss Copyright Wan-Hsin Hsu has a different (North Carolina) address listed on her business site? Not Georgia as reported...

Email:      [email protected]
Phone:     678-534-8529 (678-53-ITLAW)
Address:   Hsu Law Office, LLC
                740 SE Greenville Blvd, Ste. 400-108 #1188
                Greenville, NC 27858
                United States of America

Edit with LOLz:
A Google satellite map search shows that this is yet another "Strip Mall" Attorney. Now the part that is so "Ironic" is that the Shopping Center is called... "Pirates Pointe Shopping Center"! It also is on the out-skirts of the Greenville, Mall! How classy!!!

If an entity is represented by a U.S. attorney, they can file suit. However, whether they ultimately will have standing is a whole different animal. The question is whether Garden World has a U.S. presence of any kind like Canadian-based Masterfile does in the U.S.

A quick search of the US Copyright site, yielded ZERO results for Garden World Images, so either the images are not registered are they are registered by the photographer, I wish I had more info on the images in question.. The question remains does Garden World Images have te right to sue.. Can they even sue if they are a UK company that doesn't even do business in the US?? DO they have to follow UK law? IS  Georgia Attorney Cindy Wan-Hsin Hsu even qualified to take this on??

I've often said that collection attorneys work for an estimate 60/40 split depending on the nature of the relationship.  60% for the client and 40% for the attorney.

Cindy W. Hsu has conveniently revealed her collection fee structure on her own lawyer website. I have a screen-shot conveniently saved just in case. It's not often you find an attorney who is so helpful to reveal their fees publicly.

http://hsu-iplaw.com/fee-options.html

Apparently she will go as low as 30% if she gets more than 10 cases.

However, her take might be a little different now that she appears to be working with Carolyn Wright. After all, the Photo Attorney law firm needs to get their take of Cindy's collection efforts. Carolyn announced on their blog on April 4, 2012 that Cindy had joined her team.

http://www.photoattorney.com/?p=3676

Most of Cindy's public record still lists her workplace as Coca-Cola Company, although her bio says she left Coca-Cola Company in early 2011. The whois record of her domain, hsu-iplaw.com lists the following:

Registrar of Record: TUCOWS, INC.
Record last updated on 15-Apr-2012.
Record expires on 28-Jan-2013.
Record created on 28-Jan-2011.

The domain name registered on January 28, 2011. Cindy was on her own for about a year before she joined Carolyn's team in April 2012. It is unclear if Cindy is actually on payroll or simply working as an independent contractor.

We have heard of the "Photo Attorney" law firm headed by Carolyn E. Wright a few times before in ELI's history. She recently tried to have Scribd take down our copy of her extortion letter with a DMCA complaint. ELI aggressively responded with a DMCA Counter-Notification Letter and the copy of her extortion letter was restored.

http://www.extortionletterinfo.com/forum/getty-images-letter-forum/carolyn-e-wright%27s-photo-attorney-extortion-letter-taken-down-by-scribd/

The Photo Attorney law firm gets ELI's award for the Largest Photo Extortion of the Year (and ELI's history to date)!

At this moment, I ask everyone to withhold any outbursts and unnecessary commotion until I finish my announcement.

The latest extortion letter sets the price at $35,000 for two Images!  Yes, you read that right! $35K for 2 images! That is an incredible $17,500 per image! Check out this very familiar extortion letter using very different numbers signed by a young doe.

http://www.scribd.com/doc/93835945/Photo-Attorney-Carolyn-E-Wright-35K-Settlement-Demand-Letter

This Photo Attorney extortion letter was signed by young doe, Georgia Attorney Cindy Wan-Hsin Hsu. She goes from the Coca-Cola Company to the extortion business?  WTF. How does that even happen?

About Cindy

About Her Fee Structure

Attorney Cindy Hsu doesn't know it yet but she just became a mini-celebrity for signing off on the largest extortion Oscar and I have seen on a dollar per image basis.

My question is: did Carolyn Wright even bother to warn young Cindy Hsu what might happen to her name and reputation once she stupid and innocently signed off on that obscene letter?

Everyone now has my permission to show their shock and outrage.

Let the raging begin.

I have a two-part post on letters by the Meltzer-Grant law firm by Attorneys John E. Grant III and Eric S. Meltzer.

John E. Grant III was last associated with IMUA Legal Advisors and attempted to have our copy of his old extortion letter taken down with a DMCA complaint letter. ELI fought back with a DMCA counter-notification letter. We won that little dispute because they chose not to contest it.

http://www.extortionletterinfo.com/forum/getty-images-letter-forum/another-letter-from-imua-legal-advisors/

The IMUA Legal Advisors Settlement Demand Letter remains available for comparison.

1. The Meltzer-Grant Initial Contact Letter on behalf of Corbis. I was told that Corbis did NOT issue their own extortion letter with this case. I am not sure I believe this but that is all I have right now. This initial contact letter is quite simple and short with no demand except to establish communication. An interesting approach which "eases" into the conversation without necessarily giving the letter recipient a heart attack.

http://www.scribd.com/doc/93836535/Meltzer-Grant-Initial-Contact-Letter-for-Corbis

2. The follow-up letter is the Meltzer-Grant Settlement Offer Letter. I call it a Settlement Offer Letter instead of a Settlement Demand Letter because it is fairly gentle in its approach. Again, no big speeches, no misquoted $150,000 damages nonsense. Very straight-forward without a lot of bluster.

This is the document associated with this thread where they ask $18,000 for 4 images.

Cry-baby attorney #1 cried to Attorney #2.  Attorney #2 then got huffy and cried to Attorney #3. I finally got wind of all this crying after an extended period of time and decided to clear the air.

As a result, there will soon be a follow-up video concerning "cry-baby attorneys" and how they operate. It will be a Rated-R video. Children under 17 not allowed to view it.

I was thinking along the same lines as Lucia.
Which lawyer is butthurt over this?

Actually, it is $18,000 for 4 images. I have the letter written by Meltzer-Grant law firm and it will be posted soon.

That $18,000 for 5 images is just INSANE. I hope your client has the guts to fight this.

Will you be willing to share you copy of the letter from Meltzer & Grant with us? We haven't seen this one before. We are happy to redact your name from it. It's hard to comment without seeing the actual verbiage.  You can email the letter to matt30060 at gmail.

After recording a series of videos yesterday, I felt the need to make a video to give a clarification of my position of using and making State Bar Complaints and Attorney General Complaints against those Lawyers whose sleazy legal tactics cross the line in doing their so-called jobs.

Lawyers don't get to abuse their powers in their extortion letter-writing. They don't get to lie or exaggerate rampantly. They don't get to over-twist and over-bend the law to their liking. And they have a certain code of conduct, they should follow. No one can really stop what they do if they want to do it. But we, as non-lawyers, can fight back or get payback in a very potent and forceful manner to get them to back the frak off. Like any good weapon, power should be used responsibility and with discretion, not trivially. I have written this before but if someone wants take what I have said out of context, I get angry.

In this video, you will see I get a bit angry to the point I trip over my tongue and words a bit. But I think most of you will get my meaning.

That is exactly why ELI exists and a living example of how to defend against lawyers and even go on the attack as necessary. People can do plenty OUTSIDE of the court system if they are willing to change the rules of the fight and go after those where they are vulnerable. Too bad so many people get brainwashed otherwise.

Attorneys are vulnerable to reputation attacks, State Bar Complaints, AVVO complaints, Attorney General Complaints, and ELI listings in Google. There are probably more ways to get revenge and attack a lawyer that won't back the frak off but that is a project for another day.

Mulligan just nailed it.  The intimidating threats are precisely intended to make one shop around for "legal advice", i.e. an attorney.
The one finds out that attorney's are expensive. Yes, almost all attorneys don't recommend fighting a claim that's probably less in value than what their "retainer" costs.
Even experienced attorney's well versed in copyright law know that it's a waste of their time doing consultations for what amounts to small legal disputes for the most part.
So, that's all a big part of the tactics.

Whatever do you mean? What are you getting at?  ::)

Why would "somebody" waste time with a bogus DMCA complaint about that video. Have we not learned that stirring up the hornet's nest that is ELI = an unwise move?

Actually, that is a fairly "old" article.

We have a number of ELI referrals which you can follow-up on if you are curious.

Thanks for the help. We just recently implemented a Paypal monthly subscription contribution for as little as $5/month to make it easier for those with tighter budgets and can't to the lump sum thing.

Thanks, glad to help support everyone here in anyway I can.  Although I have already made a donation I think this site is so vaulable  I have decided to make quartley donations to help keep it here.  I know when I got my letter I had no idea what to do and was pretty worried.  I did some searching, found ELI and after a few days of reading and research I felt like a weight was lifted off of me.  We all need to support Matt, Oscar and the senior ELI team members for all they do.  I've said it before and I'll keep saying it, THANK YOU ELI!

As I said, I am not singling anyone out.  People have to choose what they can or cannot do.  Not all contributions have to be financial either. Spread good cheer and recommend ELI. Give us back links. Give us testimonials. Contribute like you do on the ELI Forums.  Like our Facebook page, Retweet us, etc.  Lots of ways to help ELI directly and indirectly.

I might start putting my own services and products in a sponsorship area. People can hire me or buy my non-ELI related products and services.  That indirectly helps ELI too by supporting my other products. But I haven't done my part by introducing or bringing them over. I have been resistant to this for years but because ELI's ongoing existence might be at stake, I will probably have to give into that. Everyone here just knows me as the guy who owns and runs ELI. The reality is I spent a lot more of my professional life, time, and expertise before I started ELI.

My only point is that if it turned out the ENTIRE ELI readership was broke and couldn't pay for Oscar's Defense Letter Program, ELI Support Phone Calls, buy the upcoming special report, or make ELI contributions, etc. then it would be time for Oscar and I to move on and let extortion letter recipients fend for themselves.

Fortunately, not everyone is broke.  There are many people who do find value in Oscar's service which indirectly helps ELI.  Some people have taken advantage of the ELI Support calls which helps. Some people have made ELI Contributions outright which helps.  People will also buy the special report when it comes out. That will help also.

We look at the big picture. Either ELI justifies its own existence or it doesn't annually.  (Breakeven is ok but ongoing losses are not.)  No one person can save ELI.  No one person can tank ELI.  It all comes down to the collective community efforts.  We will simply take it one year at a time is all I can say now. Everything works out as it should.

@Matt and ELI Senior Team Members

Matt, I cannot tell you how much this site has meant to me, while I am not able to do any of the services you have specified needing and I see there have already be some generous offers to help provide some of them I did donate $50.00 my first day here. I have also decided to repeat this once a quarter to support this site and help it continue.  While I feel confident in fighting Getty on my own now thanks to ELI I feel this is such a great resource I want to see it remain here for all the new letter recipients.  While you must make the decisions that are best for you I can’t think how many people like me who would have just paid out of fear if you and ELI were not here.  I will do all I can to support ELI and thank you all again.
