As the auction for its website domain name continues this week, copyright lawsuit filer Righthaven LLC of Las Vegas is struggling with additional problems.

In Righthaven’s latest setbacks, one of its appeals was dismissed Wednesday while Nevada judges this month dismissed three of its pending lawsuits. These dismissals were all for procedural reasons after Righthaven didn’t meet court-set deadlines.

Exactly! Not to mention the relationship the photog has with Copyright Services International, which happens to be owned by the same person that owns Hawaiian Art network..the wallpaper sites seem to be the only missing link..at least in my opinion that is.

Great case study! I agree that it can be compared to the HAN issue but only if one can establish that HAN "seeded" the internet with its image on free wallpaper sites.

That seems to be the biggest hurdle, I don't think HAN is actually seeding it, I lean more towards the photographer himself. Afterall none of the other photogs associated with HAN have their images on wallpaper sites..just an observation. I've looked into a dozen or so wallpaper site domains, most are registered in Romania and such, but I also note that some are hosted in the US with US companies, I suppose it would take some doing to get a look at log files to see whom was uploading what and when from where.

The online auction of the righthaven.com website domain name got under way Monday, with bidders having until Jan. 6 to submit offers.

A judge has authorized a receiver to auction the intellectual property of Las Vegas-based Righthaven LLC, the newspaper copyright infringement lawsuit filer.

excellent idea, more tools is always a good thing. One item I did notice in their policy is:

"The per-page charge applies to the number of pages that results from any search, regardless of the number of pages viewed, printed, or downloaded. Searches that result in no matches incur a charge for one page of data."

In other words perform your searches carefully..

Hi Bekka, good to see you here!...There are actually correlations between the farmers situation and HAN, if you read into  it like I do.. Tylors images "contaminating" wallpaper sites that offer free downloads, creative commons licenses, and code snippets to use. Innocent users grabbing these image and then being chased down with demand letters.. The question still remains as to what Hawaiian Art Network and V.K. Tylor or doing to clean this up..

Lettered, yes that is the person in question, and to follow up with Matts opinion of possibly some funny business going on, I can't help but make the following observations..

HAN has other photographers under their umbrella, yet it seems that only V.K. Tylors images are spread out on multiple wallpaper sites. Furthermore in every letter we have seen and reported on every single one is a V.K. Tylor image.
I've also noted that on many of these sites the signature is already removed, yet Hawaiian Art network / V.K. Tylor are also suing for removal of copyright information.

If I remember correctly the first HAN letter we saw came from Carolyn Wright, who is a well known and respected photo attorney, it would appear that she is no longer involved in these matters and I can't help but wonder why?

There has been some research ongoing in regards to the domain owners of the wall paper sites, just to see if it is remotely possible that there is a link somewhere.

I would also like to know what HAN is doing proactively to have these images removed from the wall paper sites, my best "guess" is nothing.

Just read this in regards to the auctioning of righthaven.com and thought I would share...

"Copyright troll Righthaven was conceived of as a way of extorting money from websites on behalf of newspaper owners when quotations from those newspapers were posted to the web."

We're not the only ones that choose to use extortion, extorting, legalized extortion, etc. when referring to copyright trolls and the bully's that try to collect...

Righthaven Lawsuits Forum / Who Wants To Own Righthaven.com? Domain Seized, About To Be Auctioned

The latest in the continuing Righthaven saga is that as part of the efforts by the court to hand over Righthaven assets to satisfy the court order for Righthaven to pay legal fees in the Hoehn case, the righthaven.com domain has been seized and will be auctioned off. While the domain is currently listed as being in the possession of Hoehn's lawyer, Marc Randazza, Randazza says that it's actually been given to the court-appointed receiver, Lara Pearson, who is planning to auction it off. According to Vegas Inc.:

Pearson added Thursday, “If all goes well, I intend to put the domain name up for auction before the holiday break begins tomorrow, though I have not yet made a firm decision as to where the domain will be auctioned.”
So, get out your checkbooks if you'd like to own a piece of copyright trolling history...
