Thanks Greg!  I will definitely stick around, I usually drop in a couple times a week and will try to contribute where I can.

I had been hesitant to share any info regarding MFs claim against me, in fear that it could damage my ability to resolve this matter and move on with my life (MF clearly monitors this forum).  My initial approach was to try to settle with them and be done with it, as this is a big distraction from my business.  I made a very generous settlement offer, far more than I thought was fair or reasonable given the circumstances, but they refused it and continued with their tactics of threats and intimidation.

The more I eductated myself and learned about their unethical business practices (and what I feel clearly fits the definition of attempted extortion), the more upset I have become.  I have learned that my initial reaction of fear and willingness to try to settle is exactly what they want.  If we all sit quietly and play by their rules, there is very little chance that their unethical practices will end.  So instead, I have decided to stand up and fight. 

The more people that stand up, fight, and bring the attention of regulators and lawmakers to the practices of these trolls, the more likely it is that something will be done to stop them.  This forum has enabled me to do so in an intelligent, educated manner because others have been willing to share their stories.  So in turn, I will share mine in hopes it will enable someone else to stand up, fight, and then share their story.

I will start a new thread discussing my tale of attempted extortion at the hands of MF.

I have been following the Prenda Law cases for about a year now and can tell you that there are more twists, turns and unbelievable stuff than my wife’s soap operas. This hearing on the 11th where Judge Wright has ordered everyone associated one the Prenda side to report for a sanctions hearing.

This could be the beginning of the end of Prenda Law and their P2P trolling activities.  Here is the latest I found over at Ars Technica.

Officially, a Prenda-linked shell company called "AF Holdings" is suing Pietz's client for infringing copyright by downloading a pornographic film from BitTorrent. But in recent weeks, the focus of the litigation has shifted to alleged misconduct by Prenda, including whether the firm stole the identity of Minnesota resident Alan Cooper to use as an officer of AF Holdings. Judge Wright has scheduled a Monday hearing to get to the bottom of the allegations.

In a last ditch effort to try and keep the fast sinking Prenda Law afloat they have issued a subpoena to Wordpress to get IP address and info on who accessed and posted on DieTrollDie and FightCopyrightTrolls website. This is going to get very interesting.  I know many of us here at ELI support both DTD and FCT and the work they do reporting on the trolls and their activities.

As I stated, this is a sad attempt to prevent the China Syndrome that Prenda Law Inc., has brought on themselves.  Please take a read of the transcript for the 19 Feb 13, deposition of Paul Hansmeier, Prenda Law, Inc.   Even if you can only read a small portion of it, you will see how evasive Paul Hansmeier is to any simple straight forward questions concerning AF Holdings LLC.   PHanmeier_Redac_Trans_08333(CA)   Unbelievable!

Agreed, all these things they are doing in my opinion meet the definition of extortion, the artificial deadlines, failure to provide proof when requested to continue negotiations, threats of lawsuits.  If they would adopt a new plan like that of Glen Carner people would leave them alone.  Notice how he got hammered came around and asked questions then changed his ways and the last things said about him have been good job.

I had filed complaints against them with the Washington State Attorney General's Office, the BBB, the FTC and my Congressman and Senator, in their response to my compliant to these agencies they got the name of my company wrong as well as the amount they were asking for.  They wanted 875.00 and in their letters they told all these agencies they were asking for 8,750.00 and there were lots of other errors I took them to task for in my follow up letters.

Looks like the noose is tightening around Prenda Law LLC’s neck Judge Wright wants all the Prenda Trolls in court March 11th for a sanction hearing.  I would love to be a fly on the wall for this one.  I have posted about Judge Wright before and he seems quite fed up with the Prenda trolls.  Various forms of this story may be found on DieTrollDie, FightCopyrightTrolls and Ars technical.  Links to the articles may be found below.

Here is an article from the NY Law Journal, one of the oldest and most prestigious legal newspapers in the country. This article is a bit off topic from my normal posts but is well worth reading and features our own Oscar Michelen!  Oscar has been working pro bono for the last nine years trying to free David McCallum who Oscar believes has been wrongfully charged and imprisoned for a murder he did not commit.  McCallum’s case was brought to Oscar’s attention by none other than Ruben “Hurricane” Carter who was himself wrongfully convicted of a crime he did not commit and has had books, songs and movies written about his life.

"Procedurally, we are stuck," said Oscar Michelen, of counsel to Cuomo LLC who has been working pro bono on McCallum's case for nine years and says he is "100 percent sure" McCallum had nothing to do with the 1985 murder of 20-year-old Nathan Blenner. "We need new evidence. We need to find something that either establishes who did it or definitively establishes that David did not do it."

A bit off topic but I thought this was a very interesting article and wanted to share it with those who were interested.
